Description

Compact growth with vivid yellow fall color

Peve Tijn (pronounced ‘tine’) is a selection of Serbian Spruce found in The Netherlands. It’s colorful needles are yellow-green on top with frosted blue-silver undersides, creating a unique multi-toned effect. Though the best color is on the new needles, this cultivar is known for holding its golden color through summer.

Slow growing, Peve Tijn maintains a globe shape when young then eventually develops into a upright, conical shape. It’s soft, feathery foliage and compact size provide contrast alongside broadleaf shrubs and perennials. Plant in climates with cool, low humidity summers.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny location with moist, well-drained soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then backfill and water thoroughly.

2. Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, keep the soil consistently moist, especially during hot or dry weather, but avoid prolonged standing water.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed. Remove damaged or crossing growth in late winter or early spring, and lightly shape only if necessary to preserve its compact habit.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring if growth is weak. Avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage loose growth and reduce its naturally tidy form.
