Description
Golden stems and bold tropical foliage
Lutea Alocasia, also known as Golden Elephant Ear, makes a strong visual statement with impressive green leaves held on golden stems. Distinct yellow veining adds contrast, creating an eye-catching display with rich color and architectural appeal.
This tropical plant is an excellent choice for containers, sheltered patios, or warm, partly shaded garden beds. Its upright form adds height and structure among lower-growing plants, while the large foliage brings a lush look to indoor and outdoor spaces. Lutea Alocasia can also be grown year round as a unique houseplant or overwintered indoors in regions with frost. This plant is toxic to humans and pets and should be used with caution.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. In zones 9–11, Lutea Alocasia can be planted outdoors or in a container. Best in dappled sunlight to part shade when planted outdoors. Indoor and patio containers should have drainage holes and a well-draining potting mix. Place plant in indirect sunlight when indoors.
2. Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy, and reduce watering during cooler months when growth slows.
3. Pruning: Remove yellow, damaged, or declining leaves at the base with clean pruners. Plant will send up new leaves throughout the growing season.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Pause or reduce feeding in fall and winter.
