Description
Sweet, nutty fruit with an early harvest
This tree features grafted, early-dropping American persimmons, with the variety selected to suit your growing zone. The sweet, nutty fruit drops from late August through October, extending the harvest into fall.
Cold hardy in zones 5 to 9, these trees typically begin bearing within 2 to 3 years. Their manageable care needs, seasonal foliage, and useful harvest make them a practical addition to edible landscapes, wildlife-friendly yards, or home orchards.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and no deeper, position the root flare at soil level, backfill, and water thoroughly. Allow enough room for the tree’s mature size.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water during extended dry periods, especially while fruit is developing.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring while the tree is dormant. Remove dead, damaged, crossing, or crowded branches, and maintain an open, balanced structure. Avoid heavy pruning, which can reduce fruit production.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring if growth is weak or soil is low in nutrients. Avoid excess nitrogen, as it can encourage leafy growth at the expense of fruiting.
